Wrigleyville Nation’s Chicago Cubs Podcast Ep 9 with Bobby Dernier

Bobby Dernier joins the podcast this week for a long-form interview covering his entire career. Bob was the lead-off man on the Cubs’ 1984 NL East Division Championship team and one-half of Harry Caray’s Daily Double, along with his longtime teammate Ryne Sandberg. Bobby D. discusses coming up in the minors with the Phillies, playing for the great Phillies’ teams of the early ’80s with Hall of Famers Pete Rose, Mike Schmidt, and Steve Carlton, his March 1984 trade to the Cubs along with Gary “Sarge” Matthews, the Cubs’ great 1984 team, and his 10-season career in the big leagues with teammates named Sutcliffe, Eckersley, Smith, Dawson, Maddux, and many more. Dernier was also a coach with the Cubs from 2006 to 2011 and saw current Cubs Starlin Castro, Jeff Samardzija, Darwin Barney, and Welington Castillo come up through the system.
