The Cubs doubled up the San Francisco Giants 8 to 4 in front of 11,120 Wrigley Field faithful. Greg Maddux picked up the victory over Roger Mason while future Cubs’ General Manager Ed Lynch collected the save. En route to winning the league’s Most Valuable Player Award, Cubs’ right fielder Andre Dawson went five for five and hit for the cycle. Dawson also threw out Mason at first base on what appeared to be a sharply hit single to right field. Centerfielder Dave Martinez went three for three with a walk and he drove in three runs to help the Cubs secure the win.
