The Cubs topped the Milwaukee Brewers 1-0 before 26,526 fans at Wrigley Field. Cubs’ starter Kerry Wood dominated the Brewers by tossing a one-hit complete game shutout to pick up the win. Wood also struck out 14 Brewer hitters. The Brewers only base hit came on a Mark Loretta single in the seventh inning. Rondell White hit a fourth inning home run to provide Wood with all of the offensive support that he needed on this day. The victory pulled the Cubs to within a half game of first place.
