The Cubs beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 in fourteen innings at Dodgers Stadium. In front of 13,605 fans, Sandy Koufax struck out fifteen Cubs’ batters over thirteen innings of work. The Cubs managed to score a run in the bottom of the first inning when Frank Thomas singled home George Altman. Down 3-2 in the ninth inning, Thomas hit a two-out solo home run off of Koufax to tie the game. In the fourteenth inning, with Koufax finally out of the game, future Cubs’ manager Don Zimmer singled home Ed Bouchee to win the game for the Cubs. Don Elston picked up the win for the Cubs by pitching four scoreless innings to close out the contest.
