Cubs Calendar: June 27, 1979

The Cubs crushed the Philadelphia Phillies 11-4 before 29,858 fans at Wrigley Field. The Cubs took an 8-0 lead beginning with a Dave Kingman two-run home run. Jerry Martin followed with a two-run home run of his own. Cubs’ starting pitcher Mike Krukow added a solo shot to extend the Cubs’ lead. Krukow threw seven innings and allowed only two runs on two hits in picking up the win. Phillies’ starter Randy Learch lasted only two innings and his replacement Rawly Eastwick recorded only four outs as each pitcher yielded four earned runs to start the game. In addition to the Cubs’ three home runs, Bill Buckner collected three hits while Mike Vail hit two singles, a double, and a triple on the day.
