Cubs Calendar: June 28, 1950

The Cubs smashed the St. Louis Cardinals 15-3 before 12,109 fans in attendance at Wrigley Field. Doyle Lade pitched a complete game to earn the win for the Cubs. Phil Cavarretta and Andy Pafko each launched three-run home runs to give the Cubs a comfortable lead. The hero of the day was Cubs’ shortstop Roy Smalley who hit for the cycle while also driving in four runs. Smalley joined George Kell and Ralph Kiner as the third player to hit for the cycle in 1950. Only six Cubs have accomplished the feat since Smalley in 1950 (Lee Walls, Billy Williams, Randy Hundley, Ivan de Jesus, Andre Dawson, and Mark Grace).
