Cubs Calendar: July 31, 1969

The Cubs clobbered the San Francisco Giants 12-2 before 24,168 fans at Wrigley Field. Starting pitcher Fergie Jenkins pitched a complete game to earn his fourteenth win of the season. He allowed only two runs on four hits while striking out eight Giants’ batters. Ernie Banks and Randy Hundley each hit a two-run home run while Billy Williams added a solo shot. Hundley led the way by driving in three runs and Banks, Williams, Santo, and Jim Qualls (guess which of these four did not make the Hall of Fame) drove in two runs apiece. The victory marked the beginning of a seven game winning streak for the Cubs and extended their lead in the division to six and a half games.
