Cubs Calendar: August 10, 2002

Almost one year to the day of Sammy Sosa’s 2001 three home-run game against the Colorado Rockies, Sosa managed the feat again. The Cubs clobbered the Rockies 15-1 at Coors Field. Mark Prior scattered five hits and only one run over six innings to secure the win. Rookies’ starting pitcher Shawn Chacon allowed eight runs in four innings to earn the loss. Fred McGriff hit a two-run home run and Moises Alou added four hits including two solo home runs for the Cubs. The hero of the day, Sammy Sosa, hit three three-run home runs for the Cubs. His nine runs batted in tied Sosa with Heinie Zimmerman for the teams’ all-time single game runs batted in total.
