The Cubs beat the Montreal Expos 8-7 before 28,195 fans at Wrigley Field. The Expos scored five runs in five innings off of Cubs’ starter Lary Sorensen on home runs by Hubie Brooks and Tim Raines as well as two blasts by Tim Wallach. The Cubs rallied with a run scoring double by Gary Matthews followed by a two-run Ryne Sandberg home run. In the bottom of the sixth inning, pinch hitter Thad Bosley hit a three-run home run to tie the game. Bosley hit a two-out two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to put the Cubs up for good 8-7. Lee Smith came in to close out the ninth inning and earn his twenty-fourth save. For the season, Bosley went twenty for sixty as a pinch hitter to set a team record for most pinch hits in a season. For his career, Bosley is second on the Cubs’ all-time pinch-hit list behind only Dwight Smith.
