The Cubs defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 8-3 in front of 32,016 fans at Wrigley Field. Mike Bielecki threw seven innings and allowed three runs to pick up the win while Les Lancaster pitched two scoreless innings to earn the save. Down 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Cubs’ pinch-hitter Darrin Jackson hit a two-run home run to put the team ahead for good. Mark Grace later singled home two runs and Mitch Webster capped the scoring with a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Two days later, Jackson hit another pinch-hit home run.
