Cubs Calendar: August 21, 1975

The Cubs blanked the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-0 at Wrigley field in front of 8,377 fans. The game was notable because Rick and Paul Reuschel became the first two brothers in major league history to combine to throw a shutout. Rick scattered five hits over six and one third innings and Paul came on in relief to allow only one hit over two and two thirds innings. Despite their dominance over a tough Dodgers’ line-up that included Davey Lopes, Steve Garvey, Ron Cey, Bill Russell, and Bill Buckner, the Reuschels recorded one strikeout in the game. The Cubs took a lead that they never relinquished with a Bill Madlock run scoring single in the bottom of the first inning. In the second inning, Rick Monday hit a two-run home run to extend the Cubs’ lead to 5-0. Jose Cardenal capped the day’s scoring with a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning.
