Cubs Calendar: September 6, 2008

On their way to the league’s best record, the Cubs walloped the Cincinnati Reds 14-9 at Great American Ball Park. Cubs’ starting pitcher Jason Marquis pitched seven and one third innings while allowing only two runs to pick up the win. Lead-off hitter Alfonso Soriano went 4-5, including three home runs, and drove in five runs. Derrek Lee also added four hits, including two doubles, and drove in three runs to help pace the offense. Mark DeRosa and Marquis each contributed home runs in the game. With the victory, the Cubs snapped a six-game losing streak and improved their record to 86-56.
